ainisomaru in English. From seed to dye the Japanese way.
I have spent the past 9 years growing indigo and meeting, studying in Japan about indigo dyeing. Big indigo farmers usually make sukumo from huge piles of dried indigo leaves, that weigh more than one ton. With my one body, I am only able to grow about 50 kgs of leaves in a year, and it is my passion to teach about how I started, with just 5-6 kgs of leaves that I compost, to then use in natural fermentation vats.
In this course, I will teach about my process. There will be no pre-recording or recordings. This course is for you if you are just curious and want to know about my process, but it will also be perfect if you want to try to make sukumo and are already growing indigo or even better, have a group of people who want to try this out.
The course will be on zoom. There will be 7 calls with a presentation part and a Q+A part. The dates are tentatively set on Wednesdays, I will wait to see who wants to sign up and where everyone lives to set a time! If you are interested but Wednesdays do not work for you, please do let me know. There will be no recording of the course but I will send you written material for each of the sessions.
