My studio is open for various types of workshops throughout the dyeing season from May to December.
ainisomaru course
a 13 months long course where you can learn all about my process from planting the indigo seeds to making a mini 10 liter fermentation vat, with sukumo that you learn making in the course as well.
This course starts in April and ends in May of the following year. For people who cannot come here so often, I offer a hybrid version where part of the course is on zoom in person in combination with a 3-day workshop in August or September. Please contact me for more details.
Course content includes how to grow indigo from seeds, how to take care of your plants until harvest, harvesting and separating leaves from stems, how to make sukumo with 6 kilos or more, of dried indigo leaves, how to build a natural sukumo fermentation 10L vat (same recipe can be used for larger vats). People who are able to come here for the whole course get to see my field and experience the planting and harvesting process. The intensive 3-day workshop includes preparation of sukumo (nesekomi), natural fermentation vat building, caring for a vat, and simple dyeing techniques.
The cost for this course in English is 88,000¥, and does not include any materials

first time dyeing course
come to my studio for a first-time indigo dyeing experience, including a full tour of the farm and studio
Time 10:00-16:00 including lunch and pick up from Kamenoko Station in Misakicho, Okayama
From 2 people: 11,000 yen per person, including a cotton scarf or a simple cotton tenugui (38cmx100cm cloth that can be used as a scarf or towel, or tapestry)

private workshops (3-5days)
for those of you traveling from far away, I offer custom-made private workshops where you can learn about my growing process, the basics of dyeing with indigo and some shibori techniques.
Price for these workshops starts at 22,000 yen/day per person
